Bhutan and Bangladesh to work together in ... - Business Bhutan

The two countries will not only share agriculture research but also cooperate in trainings and exchange visits for the development of the agricultural sector

?Bhutan and Bangladesh are all set to work together in the agricultural sector through the transfer of technology and mutual cooperation.

The countries will share agriculture research and cooperate in trainings and exchange visits that are expected to boost the sector.

The agriculture minister, LyonpoPemaGyamtsho, who is on a five-day visit to Bangladesh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)with the Bangladeshi Agriculture Minister, MatiaChowdhury.

LyonpoPemaGyamtsho said Bhutan could benefit through such technical collaboration and exchange of valuable germplasm.?

He said Bhutan can reciprocate with the experiences on natural resource management, in areas of environment conservation and water management and other areas. Another area of cooperation between the two countries that Lyonpo mentioned was the issue of climate change.

He said Bhutan and Bangladesh can collectively address the issues of climate change by sharing real time information on Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) and river flow.

The Bangladeshi agriculture minister MatiaChowdhury said the two counties can achieve greater progress by sharing the expertise and resources.

She underlined the fundamental advantages that the two nations have in the seasonality in crop production.

The signing of the MoU is aimed at promoting technology transfer as well as technical cooperation in the field of agriculture between the two countries.

Under the agreement there are 11 articles that will look at different types of important bilateral cooperation that can be implemented between the two countries.

Among others, animal and plants, highland agriculture development, natural resources and biodiversity management and conservation were some of the identified areas of cooperation between the countries in the agriculture sector.

According to the agreement, the two countries will not only promote technology transfer but also promote trainings and scientific and technical cooperation in the field of agriculture.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh is expected to impart trainings to Bhutan in soil fertility management by organizing different training programs and exchange visits. It will also include exchange of agriculture research and germplasm between Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is also expected to offer human research development for scientific professions in the Integrated Post Management (IPM), horticulture development, and crop improvement program of Bhutan.

The MoU will be implemented by the Council for RNR Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest, Bhutan and Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC).
