Speakers announced for annual grief seminar - The Business Blog

August 21, 2012 l Greenville, SC ? Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes is pleased to announce the speakers for its 11th annual grief seminar that will take place at the TD Convention Center in Greenville on

September 18-19, 2012. The seminar is a public outreach project by Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes

designed to provide a resource for those experiencing grief in their personal and professional lives.

Dr. Robert Neimeyer and Dr. Janice Nadeau will speak at the two day event, which will help attendees

cope with death and bereavement. ?Tears in their Backpacks: Children Making Sense of Death? will be

geared towards educators while ?Loss, Grief and the Quest for Meaning? is open to the general public.

There is no cost to attend either seminar. ?Beyond Goodbye: A New Approach to Grief at Work? will be offered for professional caregivers and there will be a $25 fee for anyone seeking continuing education credit.

Robert Neimeyer, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Memphis, where he also

maintains an active clinical practice. Neimeyer has published 25 books, including Grief and Bereavement

in Contemporary Society: Bridging Research and Practice, and serves as Editor of the journal Death

Studies. The author of nearly 400 articles and book chapters and a frequent workshop presenter, he is

currently working to advance a more adequate theory of grieving as a meaning-making process.

Dr. Neimeyer served as President of the Association for Death Education and Counseling and Chair of

the International Work Group for Death, Dying, & Bereavement. In recognition of his scholarly

contributions, he has been granted the Eminent Faculty Award by the University of Memphis, and made

a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Janice Nadeau is a Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, Master?s Prepared Nurse and a

Fellow in Thanatology. For 30 years she has been active in the death, dying and bereavement field as a

hospice nurse, college faculty, researcher, psychotherapist and author. Dr. Nadeau has been in clinical

practice since 1983.

Dr. Nadeau is on the editorial board of the journal, Illness, Crisis and Loss, and in recent years has served on the advisory panel for the Child Bereavement Study at Arizona State University.
